Education in Nevada, including the North Las Vegas area, has faced several challenges over the years that have required attention from authorities and the community at large. Some of these challenges include:

Insufficient Funding

  • Nevada has historically faced funding issues for its education system. This has led to a lack of adequate resources for schools, which can affect the quality of education and the availability of extracurricular programs and educational resources.

Low Student Performance:

  • Schools in North Las Vegas, like in other parts of the state, have faced challenges in terms of low student performance compared to state and national standards. Factors such as lack of resources, high teacher turnover, and socioeconomic challenges can contribute to this issue.

Educational Inequality:

  • Disparities in access to quality education are also a problem in Nevada. Low-income communities, which may be more concentrated in areas like North Las Vegas, often face greater challenges in terms of access to educational resources, adequate school facilities, and highly qualified teachers.

Infrastructure Issues:

  • Some schools in North Las Vegas may face problems related to school infrastructure, such as deteriorating facilities or overcrowding due to rapid population growth in the region.

Language and Cultural Barriers:

  • Spanish-speaking communities in North Las Vegas may face language and cultural barriers in the education system, which can hinder their participation and academic success.

COMMITMENT YO EDUCATION: Bob Olson's Vision for a Better North Las Vegas

As a resident of North Las Vegas and a candidate for District 17, I’ve witnessed firsthand the struggles our community faces, particularly in our education system. Every day, I see the impact of insufficient funding, low student performance, and disparities in access to quality education. These issues are personal to me because they affect the future of our children and the vitality of our community.

My dedication to addressing these problems runs deep. I’ve been actively involved in our community, and I’m committed to making tangible changes that will benefit all residents of District 17. If elected, I will work tirelessly to ensure that excellent education becomes a reality, guaranteeing that every child in North Las Vegas has access to a high-quality education and the opportunities they deserve to thrive.

But I can’t do this alone. I need your support to make our vision for a better North Las Vegas a reality. Together, we can create positive change and build a brighter future for our community.

Veterans in North Las Vegas, Nevada, like in many other areas, can face a range of challenges, including:

Access to Healthcare:

Veterans may struggle to access timely and quality healthcare services, including mental health care, due to long wait times, limited availability of specialists, and distance to VA facilities.

Transitioning from military to civilian life can be challenging, and veterans may face difficulties finding employment that matches their skills and experience. Unemployment or underemployment can lead to financial strain and instability.

Some veterans may experience homelessness or housing instability due to a lack of affordable housing options, limited access to supportive services, and financial hardships.

Mental Health and Substance Abuse:

Veterans may struggle with mental health issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety, often exacerbated by their military service experiences. Substance abuse and addiction can also be prevalent among veterans coping with these mental health challenges.

Social integration:

Veterans may feel isolated or disconnected from their communities upon returning from service, leading to challenges in social integration and reintegration into civilian life.

HONORING OUR VETERANS: A Commitment to Action in North Las Vegas

As an elected assembly member, I am profoundly dedicated to serving the veterans of North Las Vegas, recognizing the complex array of challenges they confront on a daily basis. From the critical need for accessible and quality healthcare services, including mental health support, to the imperative of fostering meaningful employment opportunities that honor their skills and experiences, I stand committed to advocating tirelessly on their behalf.

Moreover, I recognize the pressing issue of housing instability and homelessness among veterans, driven by a lack of affordable options and limited access to supportive services. Addressing this crisis will be a top priority, as will be the expansion of mental health resources tailored specifically to the unique needs of our veterans, including those grappling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance abuse.

Additionally, I understand the importance of social integration and community support in the successful reintegration of veterans into civilian life. By fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment through community programs, events, and outreach initiatives, we can ensure that every veteran feels valued, respected, and empowered to thrive in North Las Vegas.

In collaboration with stakeholders, community leaders, and veterans themselves, I am committed to enacting tangible, lasting solutions that honor the sacrifices made by those who have served our country. Together, we will build a community where every veteran is honored, supported, and equipped to achieve their fullest potential.

North Las Vegas, like many other cities, faces various challenges in public safety.  As an assembly member for District 17, I would address public safety issues in North Las Vegas through a variety of approaches. I would work on implementing laws and policies that directly address security concerns, such as legislation to combat organized crime and increase penalties for violent crimes. I would advocate for increased funding for the North Las Vegas Police Department, which could be allocated to hiring more personnel, improving agent training, and acquiring modern equipment and technologies to enhance security. I would also support and finance crime prevention programs in collaboration with community organizations, schools, and religious groups. I would promote community involvement in public safety through safe neighborhood programs and regular meetings with residents to discuss security concerns. Additionally, I would recognize that many public safety issues are related to broader social challenges, such as lack of access to housing, healthcare, and employment, and we would work to improve access to these services to address the underlying causes of crime and improve security in the community.

Some of the issues that  currently exist in North Las Vegas regarding small businesses include:

  • Impact of the pandemic: Many small businesses may have experienced difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including temporary closures, loss of income, and challenges in adapting to public health restrictions.

  • Competition with large chains: Small businesses may face challenges in competing with large chains and corporations in areas such as pricing, advertising, and access to financial resources.

  • Limited access to financial resources: Small businesses may struggle to access financing and capital for expansion or investment in improvements due to financial constraints and strict loan requirements.

  • Regulations and bureaucracy: Excessive regulations and bureaucratic processes can be a burden for small businesses, hindering their ability to operate efficiently and profitably.

COMMITMENT TO ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT: Prioritizing small businesses in North Las Vegas

As an assembly member for District 17 of North Las Vegas, I commit to taking concrete measures to boost the economy of small businesses in our community. I will work tirelessly to secure funds and grants that support local small businesses, streamline regulatory processes to reduce the bureaucratic burden faced by entrepreneurs, and actively promote support for local commerce through awareness and promotional campaigns. Additionally, I will spearhead infrastructure development projects that benefit small businesses and advocate for policies that improve these businesses’ access to financial resources and training programs. As your representative in the assembly, I pledge to work closely with stakeholders and the community to ensure a prosperous and sustainable business environment in North Las Vegas. Together, we can overcome current challenges and build a stronger and more vibrant economic future for all our residents and local entrepreneurs.
